Reinisch – Region Thermenregion
The wine estate Johanneshof Reinisch is nestled amongst the vineyards near the village of Tattendorf, about 30 km south of Vienna. With nearly 2,000 hours of sun per year, the Thermenregion winegrowing region surrounding Tattendorf and Gumpoldskirchen is one of Austria’s sunniest and driest regions. This guarantees that grapes grown here quite regularly attain optimum ripeness and that variety-specific aromas develop to their fullest. The constant movement of air between the plain in the east and the chain of hills to the north quickly dries the plants after precipitation, keeping the grapes healthy and protecting them from mould right up to peak ripeness. The soil, characterized by brown earth, alluvial gravel and conglomerates, offers ideal conditions for the cultivation of high-quality wine grapes.
Here in the Thermenregion south of Vienna lies Johanneshof Reinisch. There is a strong link between tradition and modernity, with vineyards growing on excellent soil, the most advanced technology of our time, and the experience of generations that have always had high ambitions for the present and the future. In a region once occupied by primeval seas, the Steinfeld (Tattendorf) vineyard lies along a geological fault line of hot springs. With its high content of coarse gravel and large share of limestone, the soil is permeable and warm, making it ideal for Burgundy grapes. This is why there is a particular focus at Johanneshof Reinisch on the varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and St. Laurent. With their brown-earth-conglomerate soils, the protected slopes at the edge of the Thermenregion (Gumpoldskirchen) offer ideal conditions for the Rotgipfler grape variety. Johanneshof Reinisch nurtures the grand tradition of this regional specialty, retaining the elegance and power that are typical of the variety but using modern methods in keeping with our time.
